The Early Days:

What is now Dowling Jewellers was once known in Swords as L & J Jewellers founded in 1983 by John
Dowling in an upstairs unit of the Castle Shopping Centre. John has been in the
jewellery trade since 1972  in wholesale manufactures and retailers
in Dublin City and had decided to start his own business in Swords.

After several years of hand making his own brand of jewellery along with
providing a refined repair service to customers he had built up a
loyal and friendly group of customers who helped L & J
Jewellers grow.

Growing The Business:

L & J Jewellers was moved in 1990 to a larger
unit on the ground floor of the Castle Shopping Centre. Providing us with a
front window and larger foot fall for customers. The business continued to
provide a large range of retail jewellery, a manufacturing and repair
service and added new machinery and technology to our workshop to move forward
with our production of in-house designed jewellery. Apprentices were taken on
at this stage with the increase in demand, over several years some apprentices
went on to work in the jewellery trade independently and open their own
jewellers around Ireland. It was in 2004 that John's son Stephen started his
apprenticeship with L & J Jewellers.

Today:

In 2024 we relocated again to an even larger space
to help us provide a service which included new technologies and tools and a
custom designed retail space for our customers to enjoy our unique range of
jewellery. Now operating in The Plaza Centre in Swords main street and
rebranding to ’Dowling Jewellers’ to allow this family business to take in the
old and the new generation going forward John and Stephen now work together as
a father and son run business or son and father it depends which one of them you
ask. They are working towards expanding
their jewellery manufacturing, repair and design to reach new  customers with their advice and knowledge
on all things jewellery related.
